Sub: BEST, Adani, TATA POWER and all private electric companies have no legal authority to install smart meters under the RDSS scheme
Private electricity companies including BEST, Adani, and TATA POWER have no legal authority to install smart meters under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which explicitly excludes all private companies.
No electricity distribution company, including MSEDCL, can enforce smart meters where distribution losses are below 15%. The purpose of RDSS is specifically to bring down losses below 15%.
Regulation 113(3) of the Electricity Supply Code mandates that each consumer must receive prior notice and be allowed to be present during installation. However, notices issued are illegal, lack essential information, and deny consumers the right to raise objections—violating transparency and natural justice.
No scientific or technical study has been conducted or made public on health hazards from radiation, or risks of fire, explosion, or electromagnetic interference from smart meters, especially in densely populated urban areas.
Further, these meters are remotely controlled, and there is no certificate from the Legal Metrology Department, making the system prone to tampering and inflated billing.
Incomplete and misleading statement that concession from 9 to 5pm. But concealing Surging charges for electricity used between 5 pm to 12 midnight. This can be increased to any number of times once started if consumers take it easy
