The most surprising and lucrative opportunity right before us. It is just that we never realised this.
A group needs 115 seats to control BMC. If your candidates get 7000-10000 in any ward he will have high chances of winning. At 10000 votes a win is almost sure.
So 115×10000 = 11,50,000 is all that a group needs to control BMC. Let us add the wasted votes of losers then also if anyone can get 15 lakh votes of Mumbaikars he/she will have control over 3,00,000 Crores in the 5 year term.
Hence BMC elections are a lucrative proposition.
But look at it the other way. When so much money is available why we are forced to live in a crumbling city with crushing traffic

Total BMC budget per year is 60000 crores.
So in five years we authorise BMC and the Corporators to spend 3,00,000 crores.
Mumbai population is 2 Crores and may be 50 lakh homes out of which 30 lakh families may be staying in flats.Rest 20 lakhs in slums.
For simplicity let us assume all 3 lakh crores are being spent on flat dwellers. That means per flat spend over five years is 10,00,000
Yes 10 lakhs per flat and for a 50 flat society the sum is 5 crores.
Total appx 225 Corporators decide how this budget is spent. Each corporator gets nearly 1400 crores to spend in 5 years.
All you see in the name of corporator is Gabage Bins, few benches gifted by untiring efforts of our karyasamrat Corporators.
Where is this money going.
You can see a sea change in the condition of city or forget the city, in your own ward if you are lucky to get an honest Corporator.
How many honest Corporators you can find in the city?
Last time I asked this question someone gave example of one past corporator who in his knowledge was honest.
Rest all are multi millionaires.
Apart from this budget the bribes given by builders will amount to at least Rs 50000 crores, corruption in RTO 10,000 crores in 5 years.
If we can 10 honest Corporators out of 225 then their wards will transform in such an outstanding manner.That will set an example for all others to come and see what their money can do if spent honestly and efficiently.
Corporators get elected with 5000 to 7000 votes.So per vote the corporator gets power to spend 20 lakhs. Per family almost 50 lakhs in 5 years.
Why would he not pay 5000-10000 per vote?
How careful you would be if you were to give 50 lakhs of your own money to someone else to spend on you?
